Sociable, intelligent and playful breed, American Water Spaniel is a dog with strong desire to do some job. This bird hunter and retriever dog has pleasing and cheerful nature which thrives more when in family.
They are very affectionate with children and share playful activities with them. They are inquisitive rather suspicious to strangers for protection of their family. Very sociable with dogs, some tend to more aggressive and dominating.
They do well with other pets if grown together, however birds may become their prey.
This breed is submissive and easy to train for domestication. They respond very well to affectionate handling but training should be firm and committed.
